The 3 digital assets EVERY person should own.

Have we reached the point yet where the average person can setup a website? Surely we must be getting close. I don’t think you can wait any longer on making your transition to a more digital life. The key is to do it without compromising your existing relationships or lifestyle. Going digital can be a big change for people.

Here are the 3 digital assets that I think every person should own and get started with as they continue to build a portfolio of digital assets.

1. The personal blog/website

Having a personal blog is so valuable. It will help you sort out your weaknesses and find your strengths. It allows you to find a new level of expression as well as keeping track of various goals, journeys and accomplishments.

I think a lot of people are scarred to blog. It’s not easy to put yourself out there. One solution is to just start doing it and see where it takes you without letting anyone know. There’s no pressure and you certainly don’t have to do it for them.

I think the most important thing is that you are writing. It’s a bit of a lost art and it’s something we could all use a little more of. Reading and writing in general are down while gaming, smartphones and internet news/gossip is way up.

What would it mean to you to become a creator rather than a consumer? What voice could you add to the mix?

I could go on forever why you should have a blog, but you will only know the value in writing consistently by doing it.

2. A business website to promote your chosen trade

If you are on this site, you are probably at least slightly interesting in taking on an entrepreneurial life. You are going to need a professional website separate from your personal blog. It’s possible to combine them but you may run into issues when you find your inner-self conflicting with your professional self.

I know myself, I like to say things on my personal website that I don’t feel comfortable saying on my business website. Don’t get me wrong, I wholly believe in authenticity and I have a lot more fun on my personal site, but the fact is this is business. People like to do business with people they like, trust and can rely on. So ask yourself if your personal website is capable of providing that image – if it does, consider a combo site.

It’s quite possible that your business website doesn’t even require a blog or much content marketing so these two websites really serve completely different purposes but are both very necessary.

3. An email list

There is no easier way to make money than to call a previous client and ask them if they need more help.

It’s quite true of email as well. Once people join your email list they are much more likely to return to your site.

With an email list you can let people know what you are up to and continue to provide them value with your expertise.

Use Aweber to setup a email collection form on all of your website and assets. If you market and sell to your list you can expect returns of anywhere between $0.50 to $1.00 per subscriber.

So if you were able to create a list of 500 readers that might mean another $3-500 dollars a month for you. Not only could you sell them your services, you could also sell them other relevant affiliate products.

Launching a book? Let them know. New service to be offered? Let them know. Also use your email list to get feedback and data for answers on how to move forward in further developing your assets.
